About us

Wells of Hope Ministries brings you another week of interacting with children of prisoners, their families and prisoners. The International Study Week is a 6 day event which is organised by Wells of Hope Ministries, where participants from different parts of the world are engaged on a study about children with a parent in prison. The participants also get to know more about what Wells of Hope does. As Wells of Hope, The study week on Children with Incarcerated parents is a great avenue for us to consolidate our experience, to share new knowledge and skills, and to discuss and jointly develop an Action Agenda for Children whose Parents are in Prison. The study week also aims at promoting friendship, solidarity, and one spirit Among people working with Children whose parents Are in Prison from all over the World. The study week also aims at educating participants about the effects of parental imprisonment. Like before, during the study week The participants will appreciate the plight of children of prisoners from a global perspective, they will learn and contribute towards creative and effective solutions that can be undertaken.

What we do

EDUCATION SUPPORT

When a parent is imprisoned, their biggest worry is the families left behind especially their children. Over 90% of the children under our care had dropped out of school or were not in school before joining the organisation. The aim of this program is to provide a holistic curriculum aimed at providing equitable access to quality education for children with incarcerated parents. The children are supported at Wells of Hope Schools (Wells of Hope Junior School and Hope High School) and higher institutions of learning.

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

Caregivers especially grandmothers and mothers of the children are empowered with vocational skills aimed at enhancing sustainable livelihoods of inmates’ families. They are trained in business skills and financial literacy.

PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT

Parental imprisonment has diverse effects to inmates and their families especially to those living with HIV & AIDS; inmates live in worry for their families they left behind and the families live in worry for their loved ones behind bars. They (the families) are also stigmatized in their communities. Through its interventions, Wells of Hope aims at helping inmates and their families cope with imprisonment and HIV & AIDS. Currently the organization is supporting 81 families with loved ones in prison.
